Odoo vs ERPNext for Bangladeshi Businesses

Odoo and ERPNext are both modular, web-based, open-source ERPs. Odoo suits companies that want a wide range of ready apps and a large partner network, and are fine with a paid Enterprise edition. ERPNext suits companies that want a fully open-source system and have developers who can work with the Frappe framework.

Which one should you choose?

Choose Odoo if

  • You want a fully open-source system with no licensed edition.
  • You have developers who can work with the Frappe framework.
  • A vendor can show you a working Bangladesh setup that fits your VAT process.

Frequently asked questions

Is ERPNext free and Odoo paid?+

Not exactly. ERPNext is fully open source and has no paid edition, though hosting and support cost money. Odoo has a free open-source Community edition and a paid Enterprise edition with extra features. Whichever you choose, implementation, customization and support are the main costs.

Which is better for Bangladesh VAT and Mushak?+

Neither can be assumed to cover NBR's Mushak formats out of the box. For either system, ask the vendor or partner which Bangladesh forms are supported and ask to see them working on your data.

Can I move from ERPNext to Odoo, or the other way?+

Yes. Moving means exporting your data, mapping it to the new system's structure, importing it and checking totals. It is a real project, so choose carefully at the start.

Is this comparison neutral?+

Zencore is an Odoo Silver Partner, so this comparison is written from an Odoo implementer's point of view. We have tried to state ERPNext's strengths fairly, and you should confirm details with an ERPNext vendor.

Which one is easier to customize?+

Both are customizable. Odoo customization uses Python and XML modules, and Odoo Studio offers low-code changes in Enterprise. ERPNext customization uses Frappe's document types, form customization and server scripts. The right choice depends on your developers' skills.
